How To Get Removed From ChexSystems

To remove yourself from CHEXSYSTEMS is actually pretty easy.

First go to consumerdebit.com and order your free ChexSystems report.

Once you receive your report from CHEXSYSTEMS, they provide you with an investigative form to investigate the items on your report.

Use this form, fill it out accordingly listing the items as not yours, and mail the form back. They will send you a new copy of your chexsystems report once their investigation is completed.

If nothing came off, simply do it again, and change the information stating that it belongs to someone else, and that it is not your item.

Simply continue this practice until the items are in fact removed from CHEXSYSTEMS.

What Is ChexSystems?

ChexSystems is a check verification service and consumer credit reporting agency like Experian, Equifax and TransUnion.

While most credit reporting agencies have data about how a someone handles credit relationships, ChexSystems provides data related to how a consumer has handled checking accounts at banks.

"ChexSystems" is a registered service mark of eFunds Corporation headquartered in Delaware and was previously registered to "Chex Systems, Inc". The purpose of ChexSystems is to help limit fraud and ensure that only financially responsible people can open and maintain a checking account.

Member banks of the ChexSystems network (which compromises roughly 80% of all banks in the United States) report on their customers who exhibit poor financial management skills, and being on file in the ChexSystems can be financially damning.

The policy banks use for reporting customers to ChexSystems vary between institutions and the reason usually given is “closed for cause.” This reason is very vague and can mean anything from serious fraud to multiple overdrafts.

Unlike credit scores, ChexSystems is more of an absolute than a score: if you’re on it, you’re more than likely going to be denied opening an account at a major institution - for the next seven years.

So, keep your financial future in mind when you write your checks and pay your bills: getting reported to ChexSystems can be very damaging and seriously limit you for the next several years.

Starting July 2001, banks are required to give you a copy of their privacy policy once you become their customer, regardless of whether you are conducting business online or offline. Get Checking is a checking-account school; a one-day, six-hour class where check bouncers learn the basics of owning a checking account and financial responsibility.

The program relies on a growing number of financial institutions that agree to allow Get Checking grads to open a checking account. Pass the test at the end of the course and you'll get a certificate to take to a participating bank.

This is only for folks who "honestly" messed up and bounced checks. If fraud is suspected, and that would be in your ChexSystems report, you won't be accepted for the class.
